What pond dye is

Pond dye is a concentrated water colorant used to tint a pond or lake and reduce sunlight penetration through the water column. Less available light can help limit the conditions that support excessive submerged plant and algae growth.

Application rate

Use one 6 ounce packet per one-half surface acre. Two packets treat a one-acre pond four to six feet deep. Add another packet only when a darker color is desired. Color can last for months in non-flowing water, while inflow, outflow, rainfall, and irrigation withdrawals increase dilution and reapplication needs.

Pond dye is not an algaecide or herbicide. It does not remove nutrients, digest bottom muck, restore dissolved oxygen, or eliminate established algae and aquatic weeds. Follow the current label and safety data sheet.
